a modern icon {LA}

charles+ray eames house_studio {1949}

as promised.  the tour {c} and i took of the iconic, modern home of charles + ray eames.  it was a gorgeous fall day in los angeles and we, of course, drove down the PCH then up into the hills above malibu to visit the abode of this amazing husband+wife design duo.

photos from our visit

known as case study house #8, the eames home was one of 12 in the case study program built during the 1940’s in LA.  charles+ray were true pioneers using off-the shelf parts to build a house that “maximized volume from minimal materials”. built on a picturesque meadow overlooking the pacific ocean, with an open floor plan that lets in daylight & provides space for their design work . . . and folks say ray was a bit of a pack rat!
