1930’s throwback {LA}

some friends & i went to see {water for elephants} on opening night. while the movie was good, reese witherspoon and her wardrobe for the movie were beyond fabulous. costume designer {jacqueline west} did not disappoint with sensual, slinky gowns, embellished & barely there circus wear, and adorable day-time frocks. sigh, i wanted every piece for my personal wardrobe. check out these stunning ensembles from the movie:

inspired & totally in love with this style, i decided to see what i could find in stores today that conveyed the glamour, elegance, & sexy sophistication of the 1930’s. yes, the era of big band music, prohibition & a night out on the town requiring full-length sultry gowns is hard to imagine. but, the classic & timeless fashion continues to influence clothing today.

my next party will definitely be a 1930’s shindig with big band music, bright red lips, and wavy pinned-up hair. oh & of course, a prohibition era cocktail……perhaps a sidecar!

4 parts brandy
2 parts triple sec
2 parts fresh lemon juice
place all of the ingredients into a shaker with ice & shake well. strain into a cocktail glass.
