the high {AL}

{high museum of art} last sunday, i went to see the picasso to warhol exhibition on view at the high in atlanta.  the weather was cloudy & crisp but the white sky with shades of gray was a beautiful backdrop to the architecture and landscape.
the exhibit was amazing and displayed the works of 14 modern artists from the twentieth century.  these masters of abstract expressionism pioneered through traditional concepts & practices to open way for a new style of art through paintings, printing, and sculpture. the great 14 included: pablo picasso, henri matisse, constantin brancusi, piet mondrian, georgio de chirico, jackson pollock, alexander calder, romare bearden, louise bourgeouis, joan miro, marcel duchamp, fernand leger, jasper johns, & andy warhol.
i highly recommend a visit if you live nearby or happen to be in atlanta.  it only takes about 2 hours to walk through and it is the first time ever this collection has been on display in the southeast.

tabletop props {AL}

{photo & things via ladies & gentlemen}

the holidays are approaching, bringing along the dinner parties & festivities. time to find the perfect serving accessories to spruce up your tabletops. i personally love to mix traditional pieces with modern, quirky objects to keep it fresh & interesting. above & below are a few wonderful finds that will work for any occasion. throw on a seasonal floral or accent to top it off, perhaps some holly sprigs for christmas, fresh hydrangeas at easter, or confetti for a birthday and your table will be set!

sasaki’s heartbeat {LA}

{images above courtesy of dwell on design}

{sasaki} is a japanese artist who “performed” at this years dwell on design in los angeles.  i included a few photos of his work in my post on tuesday, and many of you were intrigued and wanted to know more. sasaki’s {heartbeat drawing project} is live performance art which helps to raise money for the victims of the tsunami in japan.  sasaki asks volunteers to pay a fee and become “heartbeat donors”, he listens to the volunteers actual heartbeat which is played over loud speakers accompanied by a dj. he then mimics the rhythm and undulation of their heartbeat with an airbrush and red paint. the final creation is vivid and interesting, but it is the story behind his artwork that is truly phenomenal.  he has helped raise thousands of dollars for architecture for humanity’s japan earthquake reconstruction fund, and hopes to continue in his fundraising efforts and his project.

dwell on design {LA}

{dwell on design} is the west coast’s largest modern design trade show. every year hoards of designer, architects, artists, and the like show up in downtown los angeles to check out the latest trends.  this event features fun & funky new materials, high-end modern furniture, stellar lighting, the newest innovations in pre-fab, the amazing home tour, seminars/lectures, and over 200 exhibitors.  it is truly a designer’s dream come true.  i fell in love over and over again as i made my way from one exhibit to the next.  it was hard to narrow it down, but here are just a few of my favorites from this year’s show:

make music {LA}

{make music pasadena} once a year, the streets of pasadena erupt in sound for an impressive and overwhelming day of FREE music. over 100 musical performances take place on various themed stages and unique venues scattered throughout the city.  artists play on enormous stages that shut down entire streets, in tiny shaded alleyways, in courtyards, in restaurants, and even on rooftops.  the crowd was, no doubt, much larger than last years turnout, as this years show boasted an impressive line-up. artists included ra ra riot, the morning benders, best coast, seasons, zola jesus, the lonely wild, and la sera.

the energy was contagious, the masses of people were overwhelming, and the performers were phenomenal. . . can’t wait for next year! what did you get into this weekend?!?
